SDLP Headquarters

SDLP HQ is on the Ormeau Road in South Belfast.

For the record, the first HQ office (1973) I recall was in College Square North, a few doors from the “old” Ulster Museum Building.
At one point, there was an office near Queens University at Mount Charles (1980s).

  1. Glad you’re getting out and about FJH, that’s what the bus pass is there for and you’ve worked hard enough for it (I hope!).

Question; do you think the location of the SDLP’s main office in South Belfast sends out a message as to where it’s future lies or am I reading way too much into that and asking a pretty loaded question which gives away my biases?

    • No I dont think location is really an issue.
In my day HQ was at College Sq North and obviously central.
Id imagine rents/rates has as much to do with location as anything else.
Its on a main arterial road…Ormeau Road. Across the road from Lower Ormeau (Catholic) and round the corner from Donegall Pass (Protestant) and probably less than 200 metres from Havelock House (Ulster TV) and walking distance from BBC.
Although we tend to think of South Belfast as SDLP stronghold (MP, two MLAs, four councillors), this was not the case in the 1970s when the Party had no representation.

Will you be giving out membership application forms for SDLP next, Mayor-in-waiting Fitz?

That wasn’t your name I spied on the front cover of the Sunday Times this past week attached to an articles, doing a spot of journalism ? Enjoyed the read.

I have to say, I have been in the office. It took me an age to find it. FC is right.
It hardly sends out a confident message

Incidentally, 221 Ormeau Rd is NOT the office, it’s over the bridge. say no more
