Ah George Lee…don’t ya just love him?
For ages he was the RTE Economics Editor. And suddenly he decided he wanted to be a politician…for Fine Gael. At the Dublin by-election caused by the death of Seamus Brennan, in June 2009…he won the seat. Sprinkling a little celebrity stardust along the way.
So elected to represent all of his constituents, just eight months later he…resigned. Not exactly a stayer? Well no…he was disappointed that he was being under-used by Enda Kenny and the Fine Gael front bench.
Luckily for George Lee had not resigned from RTE. It was a leave of absence. So just after a year from being elected George (ex-Fine Gael TD) was back in the RTE fold. So that’s alright then. He is doing the journalist thing on RTE. No problem with that…we are all entitled to a mid-life crisis.
But here’s the thing. Can you imagine a situation where a high profile public figure…lets say a sportsperson ….goes into politics, gets elected and resigns after just eight months….and the Media do not crucify him/her? But Are journalists crucifying George Lee for doing this?

Highly recommended blog here folks. Read it please.
What was the matter with my post this time FJH?
It had no relevance to George Lee.
Factual,
One day you will be as grumpy as FJH !
It’s kinda his badge of honour 😉
Any thoughts on Meath East?
No.
Care to explain? You covered the Mid Ulster by election.
I knew something about Mid Ulster.
I think I covered it well.
I know little about Meath East. Other bloggers could cover it much better.

Second Count in Meath East FF 8106 DDI 1793 LAB 1245 FG 9547 SF 3370
Hi Bangordub. Good result for SF bad for Labour. Interesting thing is it does show that the polls were right about the FF resurgence, while FG vote is holding up.
The RTÉ gravy train knows no shame.
It’s interesting that RTE justifies these salaries on the basis that it is BOTH a public service broadcaster and a commercial broadcaster. Seemingly Pat Kenny, Ryan Tubridy, Joe Duffy and that eejits on the Saturday night show GENERATE income.
I can’t say that I have ever watched a show BECAUSE it was being presented by one of them.
FJH can you clarify why my comments on RTE salaries was deleted by the moderator?
Two reasons…sycophancy…this time Tubridy…but mostly you have a tendency to make two comments when one will do.
FJH: I think that Louise Mensch did a similar thing and was given a hard time about it. As a writer of novels, she became an MP for a short time for Corby. So this probably supports your hypothesis.
I think Louise Mensch worked for a music paper s a journalist.
She certainly got a hard time and deserved it. But she was on the Committee investigating Phone Hacking etc so obviously journalists would have the knives out for her.
On the other hand, Irish journalists were rather kind to George Lee.
But you are absolutely right…double standards.
Thats what journalists do. Thats how journalism works.
