Some Days Are Diamonds

As John Denver put it “some days are diamonds…some days are stones”. Today was one of thodial diamond Days. At 2.30pm, my #1 son and his wife had a baby daughter, our third surviving grandchild and fourth overall.

The baby is 7 lbs 8 ounces. And beautiful. Both baby and mother are doing well.

There are few better feelings in the world than touching a baby’s forehead and saying “hello I’m your grandad” and today I experienced that again….it’s nice. The great thing is that this feeling is one that is known to nationalists, unionists and letsgetalongerists.

Family…no matter how it is structured has the grace to bring out the best in us. I am at my best …..attempting to be Grandpa Walton….and doing a passable imitation of Grandpa Simpson.

So…..virtual cigars all round.

  1. Congrats to you all FJH, a beautiful, early Christmas for you and your family.

I hope you are all well!

    • Thanks FCC…..we are doing great. Long Day but a happy one. Impossible to look at a baby and not feel a sense of Hope. You homesick at all?

      • A little bit, yes and no FJH.

Spoke to Mammy FC yesterday on Skype and this is HER time of year. She does not spend much during the year and lives quite frugally, however, she likes to take her time around Christmas and go to places like Utopia on Fountain St and other curios shops to get some very nice, unique Christmas decorations, to go to a Christmas market, to watch all of the Christmas films and tv specials and to generally get in the spirit of it all. She lives for this time of year, so I do miss her.

That said, I am going to Adelaide to spend the week with her sister in law and all of my cousins including a new addition that one has fostered recently so my Mum is a whole lot better about. Aside from that, I do love the heat in the evening, however, right now, this morning, it is a really dead, sticky, humid heat and I’m waiting on a phone interview for something in Sydney which should be interesting, fingers crossed!

Best of luck for you all FJH, newborn kids should always inspire us to make this place, wherever we are, better for them in the future, but most importantly, right now
